A Real Campfire
A Real Campfire

I love to go camping. It's probably one of the only times you can go out with friends and not take a shower for a few days; no one will judge you. Except when those people show up with these huge RVs, that's just cheating -. Why not just take your whole house. Anyway, here are a few things you might enjoy trying if you are going camping soon.

Anthill Art

If you like ants and arn't a fan of killing them, you probably shouldn't try this one. But this is one of my favorites and we do it everywhere we camp. All you need is some lead and an anthill. If you want to be old-fashioned search the nearby hills for bullets but that would take you all day and you wouldn't have very much fun. We use old wheel weights that we got from some car shop - They let us have 5 buckets full, which is way more than we need but oh well. Just melt the lead over your fire pit, make sure it's a suitable pan, and pour it down an anthill. Try to make it so the anthill is close enough to your fire pit or else the melted lead will harden before you get it there. After you pour it in just let it cool. It doesn't take that long, maybe 20-30mins. Afterwards you can go dig it up. This is the hard part because every anthill is different and you have to be careful not to break off any of the branches. After you get it out of the ground it's cool to look at all the dead ants in it haha but it looks like a little lead tree. If you don't like it, just melt it again and pour it down some other hole.

Powder Coffee Creamer and Your Fire Pit

The powder coffee creamer you get at any grocery store is extremely flammable. Don't ask me how we figured this out, but if you throw it on the fire it makes you look kinda magical - you know like when mickey rose up the waves in the ocean, this would be you with fire. Cool huh. Just if you're a coffee drinker try to buy a separate creamer for this because it would suck to wake up in the morning for coffee and you don't have any more creamer because you threw it on the fire last night.

Glow Sticks

If you have young kids, dogs - whatever runs and you don't want to lose, just tie some glow sticks to them. They are also good for marking which trail your camp is on. If you have other people meeting you there, most of the time they show up after dark and they can't find you. If you have a glow stick on a bush or something near the trail, it makes things a whole lot easier. Also, if you like to go to Glamis or someplace that requires you to have a whip and your light on the end of it breaks you can put a glow stick up there and it works just as well. Others will be able to see you coming in the dark as long as you don't choose a light color like blue..no one will see that. I've also played hide and seek with them before when there was no moon in the desert, but this is potentially dangerous and people cheat by hiding them anyway (so I wouldn't recommend doing this).

How to Make an Omelette

You might have heard this one before, it is quite common but for those of you who have never tried it, all you need are your omelette ingredients (cracked eggs, cut veggies, ect.) and a Ziploc bag. Just put all your ingredients in the Ziploc bag and boil it in water until the eggs are cooked - soon after, you've got yourself an omelette. And if you're bad at cooking like me, you'll really like this trick because it is impossible to burn the eggs!

If You're Cold

Wherever you camp, chances are it is cold at night. If you don't have a spiffy motor home and are denied the luxury of a heater, you can always fill a couple of water bottles with boiling water and throw them in your sleeping bag before you go to sleep. This makes it quite cozy when you do get in it.
